Day Three Hundred and Sixty-one

Where dreams are made? The next Steve Guppy, Mark West or Keith Scott maybe?

Day Three Hundred and Fifty-two

It ain't easy being a football fan, and its even harder being a Wycombe Wanderers fan. No one ever tells you of the pains you'll experience when you're little and becoming a football fan. They never tell you about the days you'll spend standing in the cold and the rain, watching another defeat, quoting once again "I don't know why I bother". Maybe its because when the good times do come they are so much sweeter and it makes all that pain you've gone suddenly worthwhile.

This is "The long and winding path", we take from our lucky parking spot, to Adams Park each week. And yes, too many times we've muttered "I don't know why I bother coming" walking back along here, when the truth is, I know I'll be back next saturday (its Stevenage at home, who could miss that?).

Day Three Hundred and Forty-one

After last night's disappointing performance at the Wycombe Swan Theatre, we were hoping for for a much better display at Adam's Park. Though, until today Wycombe had lost three straight games, so I was filled with much optimism. If football has taught me anything though, its never give up hope. Tonight it paid off, a 4-1 thrashing of Burton was just what we wanted!

Day Three Hundred and Twenty-four

Wycombe are flying high in the league right now, second in the division and surely surely on a course for promotion this season. Today we hosted Port Vale, another team battling hard for promotion. It was an entertaining game, finishing tied with a goal a piece, but not without drama including a great solo effort goal by Scott Donnelly for Wycombe, an own goal by Leon Johnson and a fabulous penalty save by Nikki Bull.

Day Three Hundred and Twenty

I took a trip down to Adams Park to watch high flying Wycombe beat Cheltenham 2-1 tonight.

He's too fast for my camera, this is Matt Bloomfield, a true Wycombe Wanderers legend, taking a corner in the second half.

And yes, referee, that fuel was outside the area, don't you even think about giving a penalty against us!

Day Two Hundred and Ninety-Six

Take me home,
To the place,
where I belong,
By the river,
Take me home,
Al Fayed

Where were sat in the Riverside Stand, with an excellent view of the action. This photo of the River Thames is taken from the back of the stand.

Day Two Hundred and Twenty-Nine

Today we made a trip down to St. George and visited some of Amanda's friends there. Also had a chance to teach Landon some soccer skills. He's a natural (by American standards anyway!)

Day Two Hundred and Twelve

Its been 156 days since I last went to a football (soccer) game, so despite being in a foreign city and in a country that doesn't really buy into the sport like Europe does, it still felt like a bit of a home coming when we travelled up to Utah's capital to see Real Salt Lake defeat FC Dallas 2-0.

We made the day of it so I could see the sights in what was a surprisingly small, but very pretty city. Two sister missionaries were kind enough to show Amanda and I around Temple Square, and educate me a bit more about the Mormon religion and the history of the area. It was a very insightful day.

Here's Amanda's Temple...
And here's mine...

Day Two Hundred and Ten

You can't get in the way of men and their football. We've been teaching Landon to catch, his killer throw came naturally! Here we are enjoying the late summer sun.

Day Two Hundred and Eight

Why do I continue to bother to watch England? Its never exciting, its rarely entertaining, but for some reason its almost always impossible to turn down the chance to watch a game of football.

Day Two Hundred and Four

In desperate need of sport (there's no sport teams to follow here in Cedar City) we took a trip down to Las Vegas to see the UFL Locomotives play. If I'm honest the quality wasn't a touch on college let alone NFL, but it was live sport nonetheless and anyone who leaves their armchair to venture to a stadium knows that's better than watching it on TV.

Day One Hundred and Seventy-Three

I saw this in the newspaper today whilst reading previews for the new NFL season. The sentence under my team, the Cleveland Browns, pretty much sums up the team and city!

Day One Hundred and Sixty-One

Music City! After yesterday's drive through Illinois, Indiana and Kentucky we really are in a very different part of America from where I've spent the past three months. Today we explored the city, walked the country music walk of fame and sampled a local bar before spending the afternoon relaxing in the park with short run and a bit of footy.

This photo is the home of the Tennessee Titans.

Day Eighty-Seven

We missed almost the entire game because of lifeguard training today, but managed to catch the final few minutes to see America secure a jammy draw against England.

Day Sixty-seven

On a scorching hot Sunday there's only one suitable way to enjoy the sunshine in Wooburn. We headed down the village green to throw the (american) football around for a bit, followed by some refreshingly cold lagers...

Day Fifty-six

It's the day of the Europa Cup Final and we arrived in Hamburg shortly before lunchtime. Fulham fans congregate in Hans-Albers Platz in the build up to the game.

Inside the Nordbank Stadium, Hamburg, the two teams are all set for the kick-off.

Day Fifty-five

Today we begin our marathon trip to Hamburg for the Europa Cup Final. Outside Craven Cottage, this is my Dad heading off to our coach which will take us down to Dover, a short ferry trip to Calais before a drive through the French countryside, Belgium, Holland and into Germany.

Day Forty-five

Terrific support for Wycombe Wanderers away at Leyton Orient today, only a win would do to avoid relegation to the bottom level of professional football once again.

In this end it wasn't to be and its a sad day for Wycombe Wanderers Football Club. But that's the thing about football, you have to take the highs with the lows. Only those fans that stick around for the lows can truly understand the highs.

Friday, 30 April 2010

Day Forty-three

The Europa Cup Semi-Final Second Leg, 90 minutes from the final, enjoying a couple of pre match beers to calm the nerves!

Saturday, 24 April 2010

Day Thirty-eight

The penultimate home game of the season for Wycombe today, the stadium was full but the atmosphere was nervous. Surely anything but a win for Wycombe would mean relegation.

The last substitution and one final roll of the dice for Wycombe...

Wycombe 2
Swindon 2

Wycombe live to fight another day, but must win both of the two remaining games of the season to stand any chance of avoiding the drop.
